Shou Sugi Ban
The Shou Sugi Ban Collection is a collection of nine sculptural wooden bowls inspired by Isamu Noguchi’s “The Sculptor and the Ashtray.” The bowls are hand-carved by a craftsman from Lebanese cedar — a fragrant wood that we feel is a mystical material. The wood, which has a distinct weight, is then charred using the traditional Japanese shou sugi ban technique, after which the bowls are finished with a layer of natural lacquer. This collection is a tribute to the value of craftsmanship, the beauty of materials, the simplicity of form, and the functional nature of an everyday object.
